Union City itself offers you a wealth of cultural and recreational activities to enjoy. Just blocks from Acacia Creek is the renowned Union Landing, with 100 acres of shopping, dining, and entertainment, including a 25-screen movie theater.
The excellent inland weather of Union City invites you to roam the city’s 20 community parks. The nearby Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area offers picnicking, boating, hiking, swimming, and fishing. The 450-acre Fremont Central Park is also nearby, with its own beautiful Lake Elizabeth.
Residents who enjoy golfing will find 10 different courses to choose from, and those who enjoy tennis can play on one of the two nearby public courts. There are also local wineries and the Union City Historical Museum to visit.
You’ll find six colleges within eight miles of Union City, and year-round city-sponsored activities, including A Taste of Culture, a Farmers’ Market, and a Concert Series held on Saturdays in summer. And the new Ruggieri Senior Center has a full schedule of recreational activities and events. You’ll easily reach any destination, near or far, from Union City. It has its own bus service, and Dumbarton Express buses take you to points outside the city. The Bay area’s famous BART trains will pick you up in Union City and take you to the Oakland and San Francisco International Airports, and cities between and beyond. And the San Jose International Airport is only 22 miles away.
Looking Forward to Her New Life
Future Resident Oma Bruch has been involved with the Acacia Creek community since its inception–having been a participant in one of the early focus groups to assess interest in a community such as Acacia Creek. Oma was thinking about her plans for the future, and the opportunity to give input to the focus group helped her really think about what her needs would be going forward.
About a year after her participation in the focus group, Oma received a mailer about the new community and was enthusiastic about the idea after attending her very first presentation. “Acacia Creek had everything I was looking for,” Oma says. “This really impressed me!”
Oma has lived on San Francisco’s Russian Hill for 35 years, and while it has “really been home,” she is ready for the new life that awaits her at Acacia Creek. Of particular excitement for Oma are the residential dining services. “I never quite got the hang of cooking for one,” she laughs. “And forget it if I wanted to cook a roast–I would be eating it for weeks!” Oma is now looking forward to having an on-site dining room with lots of variety while still having her own kitchen to cook for her weekly church potluck. Oma is gradually preparing for her move, but doesn’t want to deal with the mess and hassle of painting, refreshing carpets, and handling the minor repairs necessary to put her home on the market while she is still occupying it. Instead she plans to fix it up after getting settled at Acacia Creek. In order to accomplish this, Oma contacted her stockbroker at Merrill Lynch to sell stocks in order to cover expenses while she has both properties. Her stockbroker alerted her to a new program, designed specifically for seniors in Oma’s situation, that will allow her to keep her stock and instead take a loan against her assets until she sells.
“Check with your financial institutions,” Oma advises, “because there are a lot of options out there to help you make this transition.” Oma offers one more piece of advice for her future Acacia Creek neighbors preparing to sell their homes: “Moving certainly takes a mental adjustment. We all get sentimental about our homes because they are what we know. I am choosing to think of this as a great new adventure, and I am so excited to meet new people, make new friends, and take up some new activities! I am moving now so that I can enjoy it to the fullest.”
A Beautiful New Home
Acacia Creek offers a variety of spacious apartments, cottages, and patio homes for you to choose from. You can select a one-bedroom, a one-bedroom-plus-den, a two-bedroom, or a two-bedroom-plus-den style. Each style features a full kitchen with a refrigerator, range-top stove, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and wood cabinetry. In addition, all accommodations come with a washer/dryer, plenty of closet space, and a private patio or deck.
Before you move in, you’ll have the opportunity to customize your new home with your choice of paint, carpeting, and vinyl flooring covers. You may also upgrade your choice of flooring, carpeting, and other interior design appointments. Your new home at Acacia Creek also comes equipped with basic satellite/cable TV service, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, and a comprehensive service package that includes weekly flat-linen laundry service, weekly housekeeping, general maintenance, scheduled transportation, round-the-clock security, and much more.
